Graphene using agricultural waste

Graphene using agricultural waste

New synthesis method for graphene using agricultural waste (Nanowerk Spotlight) The four major synthesis methods for producing graphene are: chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on metallic films, the epitaxial growth on silicon carbide, liquid exfoliation of graphite crystals, and the chemical reduction of graphene oxide. Using these processes it is possible to produce high-quality and large-sized [...]

Artificial sensing intelligence

Artificial sensing intelligence

Electronic nose with artificial sensing intelligence (Nanowerk Spotlight) A field effect transistor (FET) is a type of transistor that relies on an electric field to control the shape and hence the conductivity of a ‘channel’ in a semiconductor material. Several years ago, it was shown in a series of experiments that a silicon nanowire can [...]

Discover « Nanocomposites » – Manley Publishing

Nanocomposites are multiphase or hybrid materials which when combined together, display markedly different properties from the bulk components. Nanocomposites differ from conventional composite materials due to the nanoscale dimensions of the filler phase and the exceptionally high surface to volume ratio of this phase. As a result they often possess unique mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical [...]

Graphene sensor

Graphene sensor

Ultrafast graphene sensor monitors your breath while you speak (Nanowerk Spotlight) Graphene is just spearheading researchers’ foray into the world of two-dimensional (2D) materials. Besides carbon, molybdenum (MoS2), tungsten (WS2), and vanadium (VS2) all promise new material systems with unique properties and performance for a range of application areas. Functionalized graphene, for instance, holds exceptional [...]

Electronic skin takes your temperature

Electronic skin takes your temperature

Electronic skin takes your temperature (Nanowerk Spotlight) Previous work in stretchable, flexible electronics has shown that conventional, silicon wafer based fabrication techniques can be modified to apply electronics conformally to the heterogeneous topography of the skin (in a recent Nanowerk Spotlight we covered design considerations and recent progress in the development of electronic skin). Additionally, [...]
